The American Indian Craft Book

The function and importance of Indian Handicraft Industries in India Economy is very vital and its contribution is increasing steadily day by day. Today, this industry comes under the unorganized sector of village economy of India and even considered as the second biggest employment-creating sector after agriculture with abundant artisans engaged in craft work on a part-time basis. It is one of the few important industries in India that provides service to over 6 million artisans, along with a large number of women and people from the weaker sections of society.  Looking at the present scenario the present handicraft tradition of India is a perfect paradigm of integration between the traditional designs and modern techniques.
Moreover, the rapid growing demand for Indian handicraft and gifts products have further helped this sector a full-fledged large scale organized industry that is booming day by day. Today, worth Rs 40,000 crore handicraft products are produced in a year and of this, products worth Rs 18,000 crore are exported to foreign countries such as United States, United Kingdom and Australia.  This sector even sector provides a high ratio of value addition, and has emerged as one of the major sources of foreign exchange earnings for India. Besides this, Indian handicrafts are much sought after the world over, and form an important export commodity of India. Moreover, to centralize and organize this sector, Indian government has also started the concept of 'Towns of Excellence' that are providing recognition to production areas where the handicrafts have been traditionally developed. At present, there are 35 urban 'Haats' all across the country, that permit for the allocation of built-up stalls to artisans on a fortnightly rotation basis at small price. Certainly, the handcrafts and craftspeople have played a vital role to play in modern India - not just as part of its cultural and tradition, but as part of its economic future.

The Michaels Book of Arts & Crafts

From Michaels--America's largest specialty retailer of arts and crafts merchandise and the place to get supplies for painting, floral and home dcor, needlework, scrapbooking, and more--comes an extraordinarily big, beautiful, and encyclopedic collection of techniques and 175 projects. Whatever a crafter's pleasure, it is in here, from beading and woodworking to glass and fabric crafts. The 30 subject areas are divided into 9 chapters that all feature a basic instructions section packed with plentiful color pictures and designer tips; 5 to 10 projects; and a two-page spread of gallery photos of additional projects for inspiration.
The rise of the specialty craft megastore was one of the marvels of 1990s retailing. Naturally, this book, produced for the Michaels chain, emphasizes crafts done with materials found at that store. Fortunately, this includes many currently hot crafts, including candlemaking, scrapbooking, floral crafts, and polymer clay. Each chapter has a section of basic techniques and materials, several step-by-step projects, and a gallery of finished examples. The color photographs are excellent, making this a popular selection for public libraries.

Papercrafts For Christmas

Papercrafts for Christmas covers many different techniques. These include stitching on paper, silk and glass painting, metal embossing plus a wide range of rubber stamping techniques. Many of the techniques and projects are interchangeable and this gives readers an almost endless number of project variations. All of the techniques used are suitable for beginner crafters and are explained in full. The clear images that accompany each step will help even a complete beginner undertake the projects in the book.

Papercrafts for Christmas and Rubber Stamping

While rubber stamping is used in some of the projects, stamping is just one of many techniques used in Papercrafts for Christmas. What makes this book particularly exciting for stampers, however, is how rubber stamping could be incorporated into many of the projects. The projects that use outline stickers, for instance, could also be completed using rubber stamped images. Any project that uses decorative papers could be completed with hand-stamped papers for a truly individual look. This gives rubber stampers the opportunity to develop the projects shown and create a wide range of unique projects.

One of the first things that I thought when looking at Papercrafts for Christmas, is that while some of the projects are obviously Christmassy in nature, there are many others that could be adapted to other occasions. A lot of the techniques used to make the cards, for instance, could be used to create cards for any occasion. Likewise some of the gift bag and box projects would make lovely wedding or party favors for celebrations all year round. As well as being a great source of Christmas projects, Papercrafts for Christmas would provide a source of inspiration for project ideas for many different holidays and celebrations.

Creative Crafts For Kids

Grade 4 Up–With its attractive layout and crisply formatted text, this oversize volume is sure to entice children and those who work with them. Each spread presents one project, including its name (often indicating a holiday theme), potential audience, approximate time to complete it, and materials needed. Step-by-step instructions are numbered to correspond with close-up photographs. Tips, variations on the craft, and pictures of the final item are included. There's even a bit of information on child development tossed in, hence the range of ages recommended for each activity. Reproducible templates and an index complete this useful though not essential book. Though most kids won't have their work turn out quite as sleekly as the full-color photos
This book is full of fun stuff to do with your kids. And the instructions are clear, the pictures are bright and well thought out! My daughter has already chosen her yearly Christmas craft to make for each member of the family. A wonderful product.

Paper Quilling book

The first part of the book gives a nice overview of the basics (similar and includes directions for folded roses and how to make curled flowers with paper rectangles (which is not in most beginner quilling books).
The book offers a variety of projects that are definitely doable by any one who has a basic knowledge and a little practice in making the basic shapes. It starts with lovely flower-based designs and includes a lot more variety. I especially liked the Fall Harvest Design  There is a cute teddy bear waving from behind a flowered fence, a quilt-block design a smiling tiger, some jewelry pieces, and an antique car, and several others. I really like the pattern for the free standing angels and plan to make these.
The gallery at the end of the book is truly inspiring and shows you just how awesome art work in quilling can be with large colorful photographs (some are museum quality pieces).

If you are serious about developing your quilling skills beyond scrapbooking, looking for some ideas for your home or to give as gifts, then I would recommend adding this book to your quilling library.
